The Downers Grove Panthers Cheer program focuses on fundamental cheerleading skills with an emphasis on teamwork, safety, sportsmanship, and athlete development. We offer both Sideline Cheer and Competitive Cheer, allowing families to choose the level of commitment that best fits their athlete and schedule.
Sideline Cheer
Sideline Cheer is a great introduction to cheerleading and is ideal for athletes who are new to cheer or balancing multiple activities.
Sideline cheerleaders practice twice per week and cheer at weekly home and away Panther football games on Saturdays and/or Sundays from August through mid-November. Cheerleaders may also participate in playoff games and the Super Bowl, depending on team advancement. Athletes learn and perform a halftime routine at home games, with attendance playing an important role in halftime performance placement.
Sideline Cheer focuses on skill development, teamwork, and game day experience in a fun, supportive environment. This program is similar in structure to a traditional recreational park district program. Sideline cheerleaders do not participate in outside competitions.
Competitive Cheer
Competitive Cheer is our highest level of cheerleading and is designed for athletes who are ready for a serious team commitment. This program includes professional choreography, advanced skill progression, and multiple competitions throughout the season. Athletes practice twice per week, cheer at Panther football games per ICA requirements, and compete against other programs locally. This is a performance-based team environment focused on growth, teamwork, and competitive excellence.
Because of the level of training and team reliance, Competitive Cheer requires consistent attendance and should be considered an athlete’s priority activity during the season. Frequent conflicts, late arrivals, or absences impact the entire team. Families who anticipate multiple schedule conflicts or are unable to commit to the full season schedule should consider our Sideline Cheer program, which offers a more flexible experience.
Cheerleaders must be between 5-14 years old by August 1st of the current year. Athletes are assigned to a squad based on age and school grade.
